Sam Yeates
After graduating with a BFA in Drawing and Painting in 1974 from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, Sam moved to Austin, Texas and began a career doing rock posters and illustration work in addition to his personal paintings. From the late 1970s and through the 1980s he was under contract with Lone Star Beer for paintings used as posters and additional promotional work. Through the years he also did art for Budweiser, Olympia and Heileman brewing companies, as well as Warner Brothers Records and others.
In the 1990s, after a few years teaching art at Austin Community College, he became involved in the art aspect of the video game industry that took root in Austin at that time. After doing digital box cover art and promotional work he eventually began creating interior game art for several companies and was employed by a Disney owned company before retiring.
Sam has continued to paint, accept commissions and exhibit his work in galleries in Austin, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Santa Fe and Taos through the years.
He also has work in the collections of diverse institutions such as the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., the Whitliff Collection and the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.
Sam has lived in Santa Fe for the past four years and is currently represented by Worrell Gallery in Santa Fe and Davis Gallery in Austin, Texas.
