Richard Nicholas
Riichard was born in Denver and grew up in Buffalo, Wyoming (about halfway between Spotted Horse and Tensleep). The rhythms of early life were influenced by the seasons: managing the irrigation of the hay fields, cutting and stacking hay, feeding the cows, birthing sheep. After a brief stint in the US Navy as an Arabic linguist, he returned to the mountain west, graduated medical school and practiced Family Medicine, first in the rural mountains of Colorado, then teaching Family Medicine at the University of Colorado. He spent the next 15 years living overseas as a physician and US Diplomat where he was influenced by many and varied kinds of art and amazing people. He studied printmaking at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. He draws on his life experiences to inform his painting while soaking in the New Mexican light.
He has exhibited in Bangkok and Singapore and has art in several US Embassies in Southeast Asia. He was represented by the MAD Museum of Art and Design in Singapore, the Alumbramos Gallery in Santa Fe; and has work at the Museum of Encaustic Art in Cerrillos, New Mexico.
